Hi there, WPBay community!
Sorry to meddle in your space.
I know music is an entirely different ecosystem but I guess we have things in common, like seeing our Envato earnings drop to about 1/8th of what they once were. Not really blaming anyone, technological tsunamis happened and the market shifted big time in the last years. I see the consequences daily both with colleagues and with dev friends, programmers and web designers.
About Upwork and Fiverr: I worked through Upwork about 10 years ago (everything audio-related) and I was lucky enough to connect with a few clients that I still work with till today. As for Fiverr, I opened an account when I saw the black clouds in the horizon and got 0 GIGS there. The saturation is insane and the prices are nuts, like people willing to work for 25 bucks for almost a week.
Same with Upwork, I said, “hey, let’s shape up this profile again”, and what I found is a FIERCE fees raise, complex or timeconsuming gigs for 15 bucks and a system where you have to pay for the connects (tokens for postulations).
It shattered my motivation. I went back to teaching Sound Design at the university, kept a few fair paying customers and still trying to get used to a tighter livelihood.
I still believe that you guys, code and web experts, have a brighter horizon. For us things are darker, I think. AI is kicking much harder and subscritions already educated the customers to pay dimes or even nothing for music and sound assets.
Sorry for all the doom and gloom, but today is a special day, since tomorrow half of what was an already decimated income, vanishes.
Best of luck with your future endeavors wish everyone the best!
