Changes to withholding tax on your Envato earnings

Hey guys,

Just got this lovely email from Envato about tax changes, and thought I’d share because… well… some of us still have old author accounts there gathering dust.

Short version: since Envato is now owned by Shutterstock (a US company), payouts are moving from the Australian entity to the US one.

So, on Envato, starting June 1, 2026: Australian withholding tax goes away and US withholding tax comes in instead…

From what I understand from the email, this is specifically for Envato Elements earnings coming from US subscribers…

Default withholding if you don’t have the right tax form (W-8BEN for non-US authors):
30%… you can compare it to the Australia Royalty tax which applied for your account, to check the difference.

If anyone here still earns anything from Elements, worth checking your W-8BEN status, as you can reduce the default 30%, to a lower rate, based on what tax treaty does your country has with the USA.

Of course more bad crap from the envato CEO… Wiredely I dont care anymore, is sad how Envato eded up because and yes the fault is 100% with the CEO, he was supposed to fix things not break everything!

I know many of you thing the fault is nto just the CEO but iut is, he only needed to listen to his authors demands nothing else instead he gosted us compeltely in four years ont even once he answere any post forum or email from me and other authors… Ghish I get angry again…
