Hey guys,
Just got this lovely email from Envato about tax changes, and thought I’d share because… well… some of us still have old author accounts there gathering dust.
Short version: since Envato is now owned by Shutterstock (a US company), payouts are moving from the Australian entity to the US one.
So, on Envato, starting June 1, 2026: Australian withholding tax goes away and US withholding tax comes in instead…
From what I understand from the email, this is specifically for Envato Elements earnings coming from US subscribers…
Default withholding if you don’t have the right tax form (W-8BEN for non-US authors):
30%… you can compare it to the Australia Royalty tax which applied for your account, to check the difference.
If anyone here still earns anything from Elements, worth checking your W-8BEN status, as you can reduce the default 30%, to a lower rate, based on what tax treaty does your country has with the USA.
