New change on Envato Elements subscriptions

I got the below email today from Elements.

TLDR: they are telling authors that they add new and more expensive subscription plans for Elements customers, which will grant them access to Envato’s AI platform.
However, the authors will not get commissions based on the increased prices, but only on the basic subscription price, so Envato will not share profits of their AI platform with authors.

What do you think of this change?

Original email:

We’re updating Envato Elements Author Terms to support upcoming changes to our subscription pricing. These updates will take effect from 25 February 2026.

We’re introducing new subscription pricing tiers for Envato Elements from 25 February 2026. Customers will be able to choose from higher-tier plans that extend access to AI generations, while our existing base subscription plan will have limits.

From 25 February 2026, the Author revenue share will be calculated based on the base subscription price, just as it is today. However, for higher-tier plans, any amount above the base subscription price is not included in the revenue shared with authors. This incremental portion represents the fee for extended access to our Gen AI offering and is used to fund the delivery and ongoing operation of Gen AI functionality and our broader platform.

Typical at this point. When will these stupid decisions end? This is getting absurd — especially coming from Envato’s leadership and the CEO.

As for generative AI, I don’t need to pay Envato. If I need that, why am I paying an intermediary at all? They’re doing the exact opposite of what they should be doing.
