While others are sharing their cool new shaders and AI apps, I thought I’d share my new hosting setup. I had some of my sites on a really shi**y host (Namecheap lol) and it was time to bring them to this millennium.
I wasn’t sure how to approach it since I do not know much about sysadmin, but I found a cool solution through Runcloud.
I got a Hetzner VPS which is basically the raw Linux computer with nothing installed. Very good price ( 4-8 usd per month), 4GB RAM, 80GB storage, 20TB bandwith, servers in EU.
I connected Runcloud to it which installed everything and also set up WordPress, SSL certificates etc in less than 15 minutes.
Entire thing + site migration took just a few hours and sites are super snappy now, I think twice as fast as before. Super impressed with Runcloud: really beginner-friendly and it does everything, including site backups and more.
I also added Cloudflare which is doing wonders with its caching.
Since Cloudflare controls the DNS I also found a great email solution:
Cloudflare forwards all site emails to my personal email
For sending emails, Brevo connects to Cloudflare in a few seconds to authenticate domain, and then you can connect your Gmail to send through Brevo with very good deliverability.
No need to pay for any other email solution or email storage this way.
This is probably trivial for most, but I’m just so impressed with the speed and how quick and easy this was, so I wanted to share.
Cool tips, I haven’t use these services yet. I worked with Digital Ocean so far, I use them for a couple of years now, they provide VPS servers which run really well, they also have these one click installs, which allows you to install WordPress (with different setups), with a single click during VPS creation.
Also, they run a script during setup phase, which adds SSL and configures most of the needed stuff for your new server.
Their pricing is a bit more expensive than what you mentioned, a really basic VPS with 1 GB / 1 CPU, 25 GB SSD Disk costs 6$/month, while a reasonable perf server with 4 GB / 2 CPUs, 80 GB SSD Disk is 24$/month.
Looking at the prices you mentioned above, I will give Hetzner a try.
Sounds good, I still don’t like couldflare and similar platforms,Ihad bad experinces in the past and learned my leson, I like to be in controll of my stuff… I use https://www.conthost.net/ since 2014, they have good prices and mostly help, but when there are server issues they tend to be non responsive
I am not sure if I will change the host but I am thinking ahobut it, I pay 200 euro per year not sure if it is the right price this days…
