Hey everyone,
Quick heads-up about some important changes that were made to WPBay this week.
We need to make sure we stay aligned with current EU regulations. One of the big ones here is the Digital Services Act (DSA), which applies to online platforms and marketplaces operating in the EU.
Since WPBay is a marketplace where developers sell digital products to customers, we are also affected by this law. So, to comply, we needed to do some changes to the platform.
Nothing scary, but there are a couple changes you should know about.
EU rules require marketplaces to provide more transparency around professional sellers, so EU customers can better understand who is behind the products they’re buying.
WPBay remains the Merchant of Record, meaning customers purchase through WPBay directly, not from sellers directly. That part doesn’t change.
What does change is that if you are selling on WPBay as part of a business, professional activity or commercial operation, you now need to explicitly declare this in your vendor dashboard.
You’ll find a new option here:
https://wpbay.com/dashboard/tax-profile/
The new checkbox says:
“I am acting as a professional trader / business seller and understand that certain seller identity details may be disclosed to EU visitors to comply with applicable marketplace transparency laws.”
If your activity on WPBay is part of your business, this should be enabled. If you already submitted your Tax Information, you can revoke it and check this new checkbox, if it applies in your case.
Once enabled and after verification on our side, your public seller profile will show a new Verified Trader Info button.
Example here:
https://wpbay.com/store/coderevolution/
This button is shown only to EU visitors, not globally.
When clicked, it shows transparency information such as your business name, registration number, country, and business contact details.
Example disclosure:
CodeRevolution has declared that they are acting as a professional trader / business seller. WPBay has reviewed seller identity information as part of its marketplace compliance process.
It may show:
-
business registration number
-
business name
-
country
-
business contact email
It will also clearly mention that WPBay remains the Merchant of Record.
A quick important note: this does not expose sensitive private information.
We do not reveal tax IDs, banking details, identity documents or other sensitive verification data.
The system is also protected behind CAPTCHA and multiple verification layers to prevent scraping or abuse and the disclosure interface only appears to EU-based visitors where this transparency requirement applies.
This is one of those compliance things that isn’t super glamorous, but trust matters, and I’d rather WPBay be proactive and transparent than implement this change to the platform after we get sanctioned and fined…
So, if you’re selling as a business, please make sure your tax/business profile details are accurate.
