What do you think happened to WordPress 7.0?

So WordPress 7.0 just hit a pretty unusual situationā€¦ it was scheduled to be released on April 9th, but was delayed way until 20th May: WordPress 7.0 Release Party Updated Schedule ā€“ Make WordPress Core

They basically rolled things back after reaching Release Candidate, which never happened so far. The reason is real-time collaborationā€¦ Itā€™s not stable enough yet and instead of pushing a broken release, they chose to pause and fix it properly.

It is recommended you test your plugins or themes with 7.0 during the pause, you should use nightly builds generated from the 7.0 branch, accessible via the WordPress Beta Tester plugin by selecting the ā€˜Bleeding edgeā€™ channel and ā€˜Nightliesā€™ stream.

I can just hope that my plugins will not be affected by changes coming in 7.0ā€¦

Who knows imagine how many things you need to take into account when making such a big update, probably bugs and incompatibilitiesā€¦

Better to do it right than to break the entire environmentā€¦
