What Was Your First WordPress Project Ever?

We’ve all started somewhere, whether it was a no traffic blog back in 2015, a client’s restaurant site, or your first plugin attempt that broke everything when it was activated .
Let’s take a trip down memory lane…

  • What was your very first WordPress project?
  • What tools/themes/plugins did you use?
  • What did you learn from it?
  • Bonus: Got a screenshot or archived link? Share it!

My first WordPress project was actually a premium plugin I launched on CodeCanyon back in the day: ā€˜Get Subscribers - Exit Popup for WordPress’ - created in fall 2016. I remember that I was building it, while my newborn baby was sleeping, as I had some quite time during that short period of the day. My daughter is 9 years old soon, so is this plugin! OMG!

Basically, it is a lead generation popup builder focused on helping users grow their mailing list without needing a complex setup. I learned a ton about plugin packaging, customer support, and dealing with Envato’s review process

Looking back, it was simple, but it kickstarted everything for me. Feels nostalgic seeing it now!

What about you guys?

My first WP projects were just clients sites where I slapped on a theme and called it a day.

But your thread reminded me of one of the first websites I did, when I was like 13 years old. Found it on webarchive!

Every single design element was created slowly by hand with dozens and dozens of iterations, in Macromedia Fireworks

Seeing it now I’m actually pretty proud, not a bad job!

Actually, you site looks really sharp, many of the current developers don’t do a site looking this good, lol.

My first site was an old go.ro website (unfortunately it no longer exists neither in archives).

It was also built when I was 12 years old and basically it contained the below header, besides of some other very wise phrases:

ā€œSzabi is here and has a site!ā€ (in Romanian)
