Your strategy for selling WP themes and plugins

Hi again to everyone,

I wonder how all of you Envato authors are doing lately considering Envato low sales trend continues?
Except this place did you created your own marketplaces and how successful it is?

I recently had a chat with Envato support asking for their predictions about market trends and any advice. They are not optimistic as usual and they recommend investing in own marketing like Google Ads, social media presence or content marketing. What do you think about that and do you have any advice?

Hello,

Well, i am personally doing major shifts in my business recently. Switching from Envato to WPBay, and also switching one of the plugins I am working on from one time payment model of Envato, to subscription model which is available here on WPBay.
Also, am working on getting a free version of my plugins approved on wordpress.org, to drive more traffic.
Doing YouTube tutorials also is a good idea, especially that I have a 9.2k sub channel.
For details on how I build up this infrastructure, check the Aimogen plugin.

I am not investing in paid ads for the plugin yet, trying these alternative methods to gain traction.

If you have specific questions, let me know.

Cheers!

Unfortunately, things are bad everywhere; the industry is in a very bad place. It will take, in my opinion, at least one year for things to start moving everywhere.

I am not sure what is happening, but the downfall started when these big CEO’s startet to advertise AI as replacements for everything, which is not the case, it’s like companies are waiting for something nobody knows what, but this will stop at some point.

About advertising, paid advertising is the worst. I never trusted them. The best way is to create your own, like a YouTube channel, making some tutorials on your niche. I am planning to do this soon, hopefully it will help.

Stay strong, guys, things will get better!

Free version of plugins on wordpress.org or subscription model make sense for plugins, not sure how much for themes and I’m focused on themes.
@CodeRevolution how do you advertise your plugin’s additional subscription version on Envato page where first plugin version is?
Also I didn’t really understand how Aimogen plugin helps you?

@tibi_diablo I agree about paid advertising, never used it especially now it makes no sense when traffic goes to Elements. Good to see someone is optimistic about future of this work.

Personally, I focus on myself now, and what I do is not about Envato anymore.

Envato will lose al it’s authror if it continues like this

My approach with Aimogen is to make it clear that the CodeCanyon version is complete on its own, while mentioning that there’s an optional external purchasing option, that adds extra payment plans. You describe those extras as enhancements rather than requirements, usually in a separate section, without prices or sales language. Direct purchase links are out, but a low-key “learn more on our site” or even “get discounts” link in docs or support is generally fine.

You will remove that one plugin from Envato to your website but stay exclusive author on Envato? That is good strategy if you have one item that can be updated all time and customers are really interested in updates.

This is the way

I expect WPBAY next year at this time to be solid, Evnto will surely notice it, they never had competition before!
